Jiangnan University (JU) is one of China’s key universities of the “211 Project” and functions directly under the Ministry of Education. With its profound cultural origins, the roots of our university date back to the year of 1902 when its predecessor San Jiang Normal School began its first term. Since that time the school has developed into the National Central University in 1928, Nanjing University in 1949, Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1952, Wuxi Institute of Light Industry in 1958, Wuxi University of Light Industry in 1995, and Jiangnan University in 2001. More than a hundred years of development has made JU a world renowned comprehensive university with disciplines covering engineering, science, literature, economics management, law, agriculture, and education.

JU is located in Wuxi which is only 1.5 hour’s journey from Shanghai by train or express way. Wuxi is a city famous for its prosperous economy, rich cultural history and beautiful scenery. The newly constructed campus is located by Lake Taihu and covers 208 hectares with state of the art facilities. Surrounded by hills, beautiful greens, elegant gardens, unique bridges and tranquil streams, JU has a beautifully landscaped “Eco-campus”.

Our faculty includes academicians of the China Academy of Engineering, the Cheung Kong Scholar, Tai Hu scholar, MS and PhD advisors, and professors. This elite faculty is diligent in teaching, providing leadership in research, and has made many great contributions to the development and cultivation of talent and scientific innovation. Recently there have been 460 academic works and thousands of scientific articles published, and 462 of these were included in the SCI. Research projects have resulted in 1616 patent applications, and more than 400 were granted patent rights. Among the hundreds of completed scientific research projects, 70 projects won the Provincial S&T Award and three professors have been recognized at the national level. Partnerships with our local government and the University Science Park at the provincial level provide the pass way for the transfer of new technologies into the industrial sector.

The principle objectives of our teaching programs are to provide graduates who will contribute to the economic and social development of our society. Over 30,000 of our graduates have become reputable experts and leaders in various fields of science and technology, and have received high recognition from the society.

Dozens of international famous professors and scholars have been appointed as adjunct professors and various international conferences are organized each year. JU has established close relationships with over 50 well-known oversea universities, and has become one of the most important academic exchange platforms in the field of biotechnology, fermentation, food science & technology, textile technology and industrial design.
