Brief Introduction

School of Communication and Control Engineering was founded in 2001. Dating back to 1975, Wuxi Institute of Light Industry was preparing to establish the Department of Automation, which is then the earliest specialty related to electronics in the nation. From 1978, it began to take in undergraduates for the study of electric automation. In April of 1985, Department of Automation was officially organized and in December of 1997, School of Information and Control Engineering was founded, which was renamed as School of Communication and Control Engineering in 2001 on the occasion of the amalgamate of three colleges.

As one of the key schools in Jiangnan University, School of Communication and Control Engineering has 5 departments (including Department of Automation, Electrical Engineering, Electron Information Engineering, Communication Engineering and Information Security), and 5 subordinate research institutions. In addition, the academic level of the faculty members in teaching and researching is high. There are 8 doctoral students’ supervisors, 15 professors, 30 associate professors and 46 graduates’ supervisors among all the 125 faculty members. And there are altogether more than 1800 full-time undergraduates and over 300 graduates.

School of Communication and Control Engineering has always been advocating the principle of innovative development. It puts much weight on cultivating skilled and sophisticated talents. With joint efforts, the development of disciplines has made substantial progress. Presently the college boasts of one second-level doctoral program for “control theory and control engineering” and one graduate program for “control science and engineering”. There are altogether eight concentrations for graduate students, namely control theory & control engineering, detection technology & automatic equipment, system engineering, pattern recognition & intelligence system, navigation, guidance & control, electric machinery & equipment, power electronics & power drive and signal & information processing.

Research Achievements

The school has profound scientific research ability and has assumed in recent years 50-plus scientific research subjects of various projects, including National Natural Science Fund Project, 863 Project, Jiangsu Provincial High-tech Project, etc, which cover light industry process control ---fermentation, food, paper making and textile---,home appliance detection, textile apparatus manufacture, intelligent devices, etc. Over the past three years, over 850 academic papers have been issued, among which 216 have been accepted by the Three Major Searching, 3 were awarded the second prize of scientific advancement under Ministry of Education, 2 were granted the second prize of scientific advancement in Jiangsu Province, and 1 was given the third prize. Currently there are several projects under scientific research including 4 National natural science fund projects, 4 national fund projects and 9 provincial fund projects.

Int'l Exchanges & Cooperation

For many years, the school has had closed cooperation with overseas universities and scientific research institutions. We lay much emphasis on undergraduate and graduate education. In addition, the school has set up various scholarships to encourage students in learning. As for financial challenged students, we provide part-time jobs in our school for them, so that their basic living expenses can be guaranteed.
