School of Information Technology

 

Brief Introduction

School of Information Technology (SIT), which began to conduct teaching and research in computer science and technology as early as 1994, was officially founded in 2001. Currently it consists of six Departments (Computer Science and Technology, Information Management and Information System, Microelectronics, Printing Engineering, Digital Multimedia Technology, and Basic Courses Education), the Computing Center, and some specialty laboratories for each department.

The current number of faculty and staff in SIT is 131, including 11 professors and 35 associate professors. SIT offers five undergraduate programs, three Master and two Doctor programs. The total enrollment of SIT is about 2000 students, including about 1600 undergraduate students, about 350 graduates and 50 doctoral students.

The total area of laboratories, offices and classrooms of SIT is about 25000 square meters. The laboratories are equipped with more than 2800 PCS, including some workstations (SUN, SGI), high performance servers and other professional instruments serving teaching or research.

The purpose of SIT activities is to meet the challenge of worldwide innovation in information science and technology as well as the requirements of national economic development.

A lot of core research projects, supported by the NSFC, 863, Ministry of Education of China, and Jiangsu Province, have been performed in SIT and thus improved the research of our School to a new level. The 21st century is the era of information science and technology, which has greatly shaped our society. Faculties and students of SIT will carry forward the excellent traditions of our university and strive to make rapid progress in the field of information science and technology.
