Brief Introduction

School of Law and Politics grew out of two departments of Social Science from the former Wuxi Light Industry University and Jiangnan College and the Department of Political Education from the Wuxi Institute of Education. Now the school consists of four departments: law department, sociology department, politics department, and public administration department.

School of Law and Politics has a faculty of 86, and about 830 full-time undergraduates. There are 8 professors and 27 associate professors. Among the faculty members 5 holds Ph.D degree and 33 holds Master degree and most of them have acquired the lawyer’s qualification. The School faculty members are known for their excellent overall qualities and plenty of practice experiences, and striving for integrating research with teaching practice.

The school aims at cultivating high-quality professional talents in the fields of law and sociology, with solid knowledge bases, creative and adaptable. The graduates from the school all win popular praise in various institutions and organizations, such as government departments, judicial departments, law firms, press circles, advertising corporations and so on.

Majors/Disciplines

The school has five majors: law, sociology, social work, administrative management, and ideological and political education. Several sites for students’ practicing have been set up around Wuxi, including courts, prosecuting offices, law firms, communities, local government offices, etc.

Research Orientation

The research orientation includes law, sociology, politics, economics, administrative management, philosophy, political economic theory, ideological and political education, etc.

Research Achievements

The faculty members in our school have published nearly 700 articles in some important academic journals and magazines, and written about 40 academic works. The faculty members got various projects from different levels of authorities, including Ministry of Education, the Social Science Fund of the Provincial Department of Education, etc.

Int'l Exchanges & Cooperation

Four professors of the school have been abroad for academic exchanges. Prof. Lin GAO has got the financial support from the China Scholarship Council (Ministry of Education) and been to the University of Alberta as a visiting scholar in Canada. Prof Yongmin CAI went to France and Hong Kong as a visiting scholar several years ago. Prof. Hongyi LI has studied in University of the West of England, Britain for half a year. Prof. Zimei DENG has been to Taiwan for several weeks to attend some international conferences.

In the meantime, our school has invited several foreign professors and scholars from Canada, the United States, Germany and other countries and regions to give lectures and attend seminars in recent years.
