Brief Introduction

School of Physical Education at Jiangnan University is responsible for all the work of the sports organizations and implementation as well as the cultivation of the sports professional expertise. Assuming the public physical education and sports professional education tasks, the school of physical education contains two teaching departments in both the professional physical education and public physical education, quality-development-bases and training centers, such as physical education teaching and research institutions.

Under the guidance of the Party Committee and Administration of Jiangnan University, the Physical Education School, which adheres to the “Health First” idea, fully implements the guiding principles of higher education: “consolidation, deepening, improvement and development” and the “sports regulations of Jiangnan University” to improve the physical education. We take transforming the educational concepts as the pilot project, speeding up the development as the theme and subject construction as the leading event. Centering on the teaching and research, the school focuses on the personnel training of high level and standard. Aiming at the forefront of sports disciplines and social development of the major issues, the school gives full play to the comprehensive advantages of multi-disciplinary support, cross- disciplinary penetration, concentrates efforts on making key breakthroughs, and strives to promote the development of physical education. The constant innovation and continuous increasing strength and seeking leapfrog development contribute a lot to make the school being the cradle of the personnel of high quality and innovation.

The school now has 82 faculty members, with 68 full-time teachers, average in 38-year-old, which includes 21 professors, associate professors and supervisors for master’s programs, accounting for 31 percent in the whole faculty team. The 28 teachers with PhD and master’s degree as well as 4 national referees are also contributing excellence to the School. The high-level academic groups have laid a solid foundation for high-level personnel training and knowledge innovation.
Our university attaches great importance to the physical infrastructure and has implemented a high level construction in the university’s overall physical infrastructure plan, which includes a gym of 12700 square meter with the holding capacity of 4500 people, a center stadium with the holding capacity of 13000 seats and a modern outside swimming pool, a series sports fields for basketball, volleyball and tennis as well as the relating sports infrastructure of rock-climbing and orienteering in the modern psychological training base.

The school emphasizes the scientific research organizations. And the research funding increased significantly each year. In recent years, the school has assumed over 30 scientific research projects, including the provincial and ministerial level projects, multi-disciplinary research, and Youth Fund projects within Jiangnan University. There are over 200 research articles of the teachers of our school published publicly, of which more than 30 articles are published on core publications and 10 teaching materials. ?The school also has a series of research institutions such as the cultural training centers for state university students, Chinese school physical and psychological education research organization and Wuxi physical experiencing education research institution.

We are committed to developing the expertise with good self-cultivation and familiar with the relevant national education as well as the principles of education. The qualified graduates should also own a better knowledge of basic theory and methods of the sports and health; read extensively, and have a logical thinking ability; a higher degree of professional ethics and skills of foreign languages and computer practical ability; social adaptation.
